Het is niet verwonderlijk dat de FFII zich richt op Nederland.
Eurocommissaris Frits Bolkestein (VVD-ELDR) speelt een grote rol bij de
softwarepatentenrichtlijn die door de BSA is opgesteld en vormde zelfs
de rechtstreekse aanleiding om de EuroLinux-petitie te starten met de
titel "Defend the Parliament's Directive against Bolkestein &
Council Patent Lawyers!" [2]. De betrokken industriecommissie ITRE
stond onder leiding van Elly Plooij (VVD-ELDR).
Parlementslid Johanna Boogerd (D66-ELDR) doorzag al snel de
consequenties voor softwaregebruikers en het MKB. Zo is er bijvoorbeeld
een patent op e-commerce en legalisatie van dit patent legt verkopen
via het internet lam [3]. Als doorgewinterd politica heeft zij vele
collega's weten te overtuigen van de gevaren. Daarnaast is ze gekant
tegen de EuroDMCA, neemt privacy serieus en heeft vorige week
schriftelijke vragen gesteld aan de Europese Commissie over wat de
commissie denkt te doen aan het feit dat ons erfgoed in de vorm van
Europese Project Gutenberg e-boeken niet legaal door Europeanen
geraadpleegd mogen worden.
De stichting Vrijschrift.org heeft het stemgedrag van Nederlandse
politici in Brussel in kaart gebracht [4] en zal op het najaarscongres
van D66, waar de Europese lijsttrekker wordt gekozen, op 22 november in
Maastricht aanwezig zijn om
steun uit te spreken voor Johanna Boogerd.

She did a lot to make a large part of the Liberal group vote against
software patentability in September 24. This brought her into
public conflict with another dutch liberal, Frits Bolkestein, see

I think we all, especially those in Holland, want Johanna Boogerd back
in Brussels in the EP in 2004.
Note that D66.nl and Bolkestein's VVD.nl are different parties.
D66 as whole has also in the past been more supportive of freedom
of information infrastructures than VVD.
